Most popular Linux desktops, notebooks, and netbooks are integrated with Dell and Novell parts as a result of close collaboration among them. A Dell or Novell CPU fan usually makes noise and then slows down when dirt in the form of thermal compound accumulates in it. You can normalize or speed up your CPU fan by simple cleaning, although you would have to go through disassembling and assembling your laptop in a careful manner to accomplish this
Step 1
Turn the laptop over, remove the main battery, and safely set it aside.
Step 2
Unscrew the back cover using a Phillips screwdriver. Slide out and remove the CD/DVD-ROM drive and the hard drive. Secure drives, cover, and screws in a dry, flat surface.
Step 3
Turn the laptop over and open its display screen. Locate the blank key, one key above the right arrow, on the lower right corner of your keyboard.
Step 4
Pry the keyboard loose using the plastic scribe, use it to disengage tabs from the sides.
Step 5
Disconnect the keyboard cable by unlocking its connector on the motherboard. Safely set aside keyboard, cable, and connector.
Step 6\
Unplug the CPU fan of your laptop. Unscrew the fan itself and the heat sink from their position using the Phillips screwdriver. Clean the CPU fan and heat sink gently using Q-tips dipped in some rubbing alcohol to remove any thermal compound.
Step 7Re-place the CPU fan in the same location and orientation. Mount its screws and that of the heat sink and plug in the clean CPU fan assembly.
Step 8Reverse the process going from Steps 5 to 1 to reassemble your laptop completely.
