1): Except you want to keep the software that DELL combined in your system, my suggestion is you should definitely delete them. Therefore, probably formatting is the easiest thing you could do on your laptop. In my opinion, there’s noting worth you installing.
-Go to Dell website and download latest drivers, or comparatively new drivers. If you want latest drivers and best performance, then you should directly go to the website of manufacturer and download. You could save them on a movable disk, such as U disk, and then burn them on a CD.
-Insert a XP system CD into your CD-ROM drive.
-Restart, and press F12 when machine starts, and later Boot menu would appear, choose boot from CD-ROM.
-Follow general system installation direction.
-When system installs automatically, wait for 30 to 40 minutes, and you could go do something else during this period.
-Once enter system, and then begin installing drivers for devices, such as Intel motherboard, display card, sound card, network card, wireless network card, Bluetooth, 5 in 1 card reader and camera.
-Connect to Internet, and run system update, then you would get more than 70 updates of at least about 400M.
-Install a virus scanning software, and then update its virus library.
